Read Acts 2:41-47

Peter preaches the first sermon in the book of Acts, and the Holy Spirit is poured out in power. This is how the first church was launched.

  • What did the believers do together?
  • What do you admire about this community? List the values that you see embodied.
  • From this story, why might it be important for followers of Jesus to actually meet together regularly in person?
  • What were the consequences of the believers doing these things together?

Go and do

No church is perfect. But we need to belong to the body of Jesus, his church. If you are not yet a part of a church, pray for a church to go to. When you show up, be sure to introduce yourself to people.

If you are already a member of a church, invest there. Join a Small Group. Be vulnerable with others. Ask for prayer when you experience anxiety and difficulties. Meet up with folks outside of the church structured events. Grab a meal with them. Enjoy the cross-generational connections. Ask older folks for their advice. Listen to their stories of God’s faithfulness. Invite friends to go with you. Fill your car with guests each week.

Reflect on what you learned

  • What was it like introducing yourself to people at church?
  • How did the church you visited (or the church you attend regularly) demonstrate authentic community? What of the actions in Acts 2 did you see lived out?
  • How might you need courage or help to make this a weekly habit?
