Debriefing a Bible Study: Questions to Ask Small Group Leaders

Helping student leaders process each small group will foster greater learning, formation, awareness, and worship of God. It also gives you as the coach valuable insight into how to best support and form your leaders throughout the year. Here are suggested questions to ask leaders each week after they lead.

Questions to ask when debriefing Bible studies:

  1. Name one highlight and one lowlight from your study.
  2. During the study, what did you notice about yourself, about the members of your group, and about God's presence and partnership? What are you learning or wondering?
  3. What did faithfulness look like for you as a leader this week?
  4. What took the most courage this week? How did you sense God meeting you in those moments? How is God growing you as a person of faith?
  5. What are you learning about partnering with God in leadership and risk-taking?
  6. Thinking ahead to next week's study, what is one thing you want God to provide (regarding your leadership, the needs of your members, group dynamics, the call to faith, etc.)?

Debrief questions for studies that include a call to faith:

  1. What was it like for you to facilitate the call to faith?
  2. What went as expected? What surprised you?
  3. How did you see God at work as you shared the gospel and asked for a response?
  4. What can you celebrate because of how people responded to the gospel?
