Unity in Diversity Discipleship Cycle

Read Acts 2:1-12 and 42-47
It can be easy to believe that the things that make us different are barriers to connecting. But in the early church, the Holy Spirit highlights the language diversity of a vast group of people to unite them under one Gospel! Because of this work of the Holy Spirit, thousands come to accept Jesus and a radically generous community is formed.
- The Holy Spirit allows for the Gospel to be heard in everyone’s native tongue. Why is this significant?
- How did the arrival of Holy Spirit shape the strong community that is formed at the end of the passage?
- What is intriguing about this community? What might have been peculiar or challenging about it?

Go and do
When we choose to be in community with people who have different experiences than us, we have the opportunity to see more of who God is, as all people reflect the image of the Creator. The Holy Spirit that brought this Acts 2 community together also empowers us to pursue communion and radical generosity with those around us. Spend some time reflecting on the people in your life and in your campus community. Who might God be inviting you to be in deeper community with?
Suggestions:
- Print out a map of your campus and note places you frequent often versus areas you are less present in. Over the next week, be praying for areas of campus where you are less present and invite a friend to pray with you. Consider how you can be present in those spaces while you intercede.
- Share a meal with someone on campus from a community or background that is different from yours. As you eat together, learn more about their experience on campus and within their ethnic or cultural background.

Reflect on what you learned
- What did you learn about other communities/spaces on campus?
- What was happening in your heart as you prayed for specific spaces and communities on campus? What did you receive from the Lord?
- In what ways do you want to continue to foster community with others on campus?
