Guide to Praying For Mixed Students

Thank you for praying over Mixed students, faculty, and other multiethnic people. Use these prayer points to also guide your conversations with Mixed folks, so that you can learn more about their stories—their unique needs, gifts, and callings.

  • Begin by praying for yourself—that you will feel a strong sense of God already at work in Mixed students’ lives and in their communities.
  • Pray for Mixed students to feel fully seen, fully known, and fully loved.
  • Pray that they will not feel lonely or overlooked.
  • Pray that Mixed students will feel affirmed in their Mixed identity as part of their identity in Christ. Pray that they will feel free to learn more about all parts of their human identity: as scholars, in extracurricular activities and as family members.
  • Pray that Mixed students will feel joy in knowing they are made in the image of God with their varying ethnic, gender, sexuality, ability, educational, and financial realities.
  • Pray for monoethnic folks (both majority culture and other minorities) to come alongside their Mixed friends and classmates. Pray that they will be humble to learn Mixed people’s stories.
  • Pray that students and faculty will feel the close presence of our Mixed King Jesus, that God will be worshipped in spirit and in truth, and that Holy Spirit will move in miraculous ways in their lives.
  • Pray that all students, faculty, and staff on campus will find freedom and joy in knowing God. Pray that our Mixed savior (see Matthew 1) will meet them in all their needs and that God will be praised on campus.
  • Use A Mixed Blessing to Pray Over Others to end your time of prayer, thanking the Lord for who he is and that he deeply loves Mixed students.

A Mixed Blessing To Pray Over Others

adapted from the “Prayer of St. Patrick”

To pray over others, use the italicized words in parentheses or insert their names. This can also be used communally.

As (they) step forward today
may the strength of God direct (them) and
the wisdom of God guide (them)
through all (their) Mixed feelings.

May the ear of God hear (them)
and the eye of God look at (them) with love
in the Mixed body that God created.

May Christ hold (them) today
Christ with (them), Christ before (them)
Christ all around (them), and Christ in (them).

Jesus the Christ, our Brown, Mixed,
Middle Eastern & North African
Savior who dwelt among us
and whose Spirit dwells in (their) Mixed body.

May Holy Spirit be in the heart of everyone
who thinks of (them),
as (they) think of others.
May Holy Spirit affirm (them) to worship and serve
through (their) Mixed experiences.

As (they) step forward today
may every step be proof of God’s care
and intentionality in creating (them)
to receive love and care,
and to be a Mixed blessing.
