Mixed Identity Discipleship Cycle

Read Ephesians 2: 20 and Matthew 1: 1-16
It might sometimes seem like our Mixed heritage is a mistake, but we're created for
good-and that includes our bodies and ethnic stories. Looking at Matthew 1, we see
that Jesus is Mixed! If his multiethnicity is good, so is ours.
- Why do you think that women are listed in the lineage of Jesus?
- What does it mean to be created in Christ Jesus? How do we reflect his
image? - Do you find it hard to believe that your multiethnicity is a gift and not a
mistake?

Go and do
In pondering the truth that we reflect Jesus in our Mixed identity, we must turn
to God. When we pray, we can find out how Holy Spirit wants to guide us in our
journey, so that we can reflect Jesus to the world.
- Ask for forgiveness where you have hated your own Mixed body.
- Choose something to praise God for—something that’s beautiful about
being multiethnic in your own life. - Ask the Lord how your Mixed identity could bless others
and showcase Jesus.
So that we don’t get stuck in our own heads, let’s think of more specific actions to
take as a response to our time of prayer.
- Ask God to help you find good Bible passages, podcasts, books,
etc. Visit InterVarsity Library Mixed Resources. - Ask the Lord to bring Mixed people into your life to journey with.
- Commit to journaling, praying, and/or processing these truths on a regular
basis, for a specific amount of time: for example, weekly on Tuesdays for a
month.

Reflect on what you learned
- Do I feel different after working through this discipleship cycle?
- What has changed? What has stayed the same?
- If all this is true, what “good works” (Eph. 2:10) has God prepared for me to
do?
