Discipleship Bible Study

GROW: Learning to Follow Jesus

A four-week study for new Christians, helping them grow in community. Following the pattern of discipleship cycles, students will look at the Word and respond, with space for debriefing and journaling. Can be done one on one or with small groups.

Angela Caffrey, MD, MDiv

Angela Caffrey is board-certified in Gynecologic Oncology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine. She served overseas part-time each year, teaching surgery and end-of-life care at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Kenya from 2011 to 2017. While completing her MDiv at Fuller Seminary, she married Mark, a classmate from medical school; together they are building their marriage around John 15:1-17. She loves expressing God's love through cooking and food adventures, mentoring, and being outdoors, enjoying creation in every season. Her ministry passion is to love and support peer physicians and health care students as they walk together with the Lord.

John W. Alexander, Ph. D.

The late John W. Alexander (1918-2002). "Dr. A" fostered fruitful engagement between Christians and their academic and professional milieux throughout his career as Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and as President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship from 1964 to 1981, and we in Graduate & Faculty Ministries are especially grateful for his legacy. Jessica Pafumi

Jess Pafumi serves as InterVarsity’s Assistant Director of Theological Formation, focusing on human sexuality, discipleship, and missiological resources. With more than 14 years of campus ministry experience, she is passionate about cultivating diverse communities of belonging and Christ-centered hospitality. Her research and writing interests include cultivating Acts 2 communities, interdenominational unity, and LGBTQ+/SSA ministry. Jess holds an MA in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. Outside of ministry, she enjoys hiking, exploring national parks in her Airstream, and adventuring with her Aussiedoodle.

Alison Smith

Alison Smith is a Pi Beta Phi alumna from Western Michigan University. She started a Greek InterVarsity chapter at her alma mater and came on staff with Greek InterVarsity after she graduated. Alison formerly served at Miami University, the University of Utah, and as the Associate Director of Communications for Greek IV nationally. Alison is an active alumna with Pi Beta Phi- leading as a Collegiate Regional Programming Specialist for the Pacific Northwest. In her spare time, Alison enjoys reading, writing, gardening, spending time with her husband and adorable cat (she is not ashamed!), and running. 

Bethany Givens Blankespoor

Bethany Givens Blankespoor formerly served as a spiritual formation specialist for the Mid-Atlantic Region of InterVarsity. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband, daughter and two cats. In her time with InterVarsity she worked with students on campuses in Washington, DC and with InterVarsity’s Study Abroad Ministry. She completed her MDiv from Fuller Seminary and is passionate about helping people live out stories filled with hope, faith and love.
